Last week, we shared how Developing Workers is committed to investing deeply in future leaders, supporting their growth in ministry and discipleship. Today, we’re excited to introduce you to another one of those leaders—Steven Widger.
Steven’s journey into pastoral ministry began in 2019 during his junior year at Grand Canyon University, when he joined Michael and a team on a mission trip to Honduras. It was during this trip that he felt God calling him to ministry, and his connection with Michael deepened as a result. Over time, Steven has grown into a passionate communicator of God’s Word, with a heart for leading and serving.
Following the mission trip, Steven spent a summer in Europe with AT3, an organization dedicated to spreading the gospel. During his senior year at GCU, Michael continued to invest deeply in him, recognizing Steven’s growing potential.
In 2021, Steven traveled again with Michael, this time to Kenya. Despite facing multiple obstacles, he was guided by the power of the Holy Spirit and helped lead 3 days of training sessions with groups of pastors in Kenya. They taught on the Trinity, God, and discipleship. During this trip, Michael poured into Steven, encouraging him to improve his clarity and conciseness in communication. Michael also pressed Steven to trust God in every aspect of his life, especially regarding work and school.
“Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people.”
— Acts 11:25-26 (NIV)
Steven’s journey exemplifies the power of investing deeply in the next generation of leaders, both spiritually and practically. We’re excited to see what God will continue to do through Steven as he serves in ministry.
